From the five elements, the three doshas are derived—Vata,Pitta, and Kapha. Known as mind-body types, the doshas express particular patterns of energy—unique blends of physical, emotional, and mental characteristics.
In Ayurveda, health is defined as the dynamic state of balance between mind, body, and environment. It is possible for each of us to achieve and maintain a vibrant and joyful state of health by identifying our mind-body type and then creating a lifestyle that sustains and nurtures our unique nature. Take the Dosha Quiz and determine: “What’s my dosha?” If more than one quality is applicable in each characteristic, choose the one that applies the most.
The Quiz gives you an inquiry into the proportion of each of the three principles – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha -- within your unique mind body constitution. Your score in Part 1 of the dosha quiz reflects your basic nature. These characteristics tend to change slowly over your lifetime.
The principle that received the highest number of checks(√) is the most predominant force in your overall mind body make-up. The principle that received the next highest number of checks is the secondary force in your constitution. The lowest scoring principle, while still an active force in your mind body physiology, is the least dominant in your particular constitution.
This part of the quiz gathers information about your basic nature—the way you were as a child or the basic patterns that have been true most of your life. If you developed an illness in childhood or as an adult, think of how things were for you before that illness. If more than one quality is applicable in each characteristic, choose the one the applies the most.
For fairly objective physical traits, your choice will usually be obvious. For mental traits and behavior, which are more subjective, you should answer according to how you have felt and acted most of your life, or at least in the past few years.
